Our Process
Sod Design aims to provide our clients with a smooth, efficient and enjoyable design experience. Our considered approach aims to gather your ideas, assess your site and its issues, design the best possible solutions for you to choose from and implement a practical and convenient landscaping construction process. Early consideration of garden spaces has often proven highly beneficial when larger building processes are also in play, such as dwelling renovations and pool construction.
The Meeting
A site meeting is often our starting point, allowing us to ‘groundtruth’ by walking over the area with you before we do anything. There are many variables that affect a landscape site, and there is no better way to gain a feel for a site than being present in the space. Often elements such as site access, gradient, aspect, buildings and neighbour proximity need to be considered before a pen is put to paper. Where the landscape is part of a bigger building project, we try to meet early with architects or builders to review their designs for better integration and project planning.
The Design
Sod Design prides itself on its innovative ideas and practical solutions. You pay us for this, and we will always charge a design fee to provide this specialist knowledge, combined with your ideas, to produce a range of design options. A fee proposal will be presented for approval by clients prior to any design work begins.
The design process is like a good conversation. We listen to your needs and provide considered solutions. This process will go back and forth to create a refined outcome with a set of drawings and sketches customised to each project. Often, the drawings will be supported with plant and material palettes to provide visual clarity.
Our fees are competitive and are kept to schematics and concept sketches unless specialist or third-party construction or approval is required, or unless otherwise requested by the client.
Detail and construction drawings will be priced on a job by job basis. Sod’s director is a registered landscape architect and is qualified to contract manage on client’s behalf. Pricing for contract management is priced on a project-specific basis, but is guided by industry standards.
The Build
Our team aims to create beautiful spaces and, consequently, we respect your space by minimising noise, mess and inconvenience. Our staff are respectful, honest and well-mannered and understand that this is your home or business that we are working in. We often partner with specialist sub-contractors for specific hardscape elements and have access to a diverse range of local and Australia-wide nurseries to source your plants.
We can construct to a fixed price or on a cost plus basis. If you carry out domestic building work valued at more than $3,300 in Queensland, the Domestic Building Contracts Act requires us to have a written works contract with all clients.
